Hi, I’m Ren.

Web Designer.

Fantasy & Dystopian Writer.

Reigning queen of The Writerly Type Studio.

(I KNEW READING ALL THOSE FANTASY NOVELS WOULD HELP ME RULE SOMETHING ONE DAY.)

Welcome to The Writerly Type Studio!

Authors are some of my favorite people in the universe.

When I was in middle school, I considered Anne Shirley (Anne of Green Gables) and Jo March (Little Women) my fictional besties. They were writers with imaginations going wild, and I saw myself in them.

For the last twenty years, I’ve been involved in writing, editing, and designing in some capacity. Currently, I write for Heber Valley Magazine and for the last three years I’ve helped run the Writing and Illustrating for Young Readers conference in Draper, Utah, working with aspiring authors and interacting with editors, agents, and published authors as part of our annual conference and monthly online events. I’m working toward publishing my own book and have learned about both traditional and indie publishing.

I want to help authors succeed, and I believe that having a fabulous website and a clear idea on branding can help them do that.

How did I get started in web design?

I’ve always been tech-savvy (thanks, Dad!) and when I joined the Writing and Illustrating for Young Readers team, the director, author Carol Lynch Williams, asked me to update their website. I had dabbled with websites before, and I was excited to dive in. Their website was a fine DIY version, but even without specific training (yet), I was able to take it to the next level, making it possible to up their sales by almost 50% in the first year.

I enjoyed designing so much that I took official training and by the next year, I’d launched my own author website business.

What makes me different?

I KNOW THE INDUSTRY.

For twenty years, I’ve been a part of author communities, studied craft, and worked on my own writing. I know how much work goes into the process of publishing a book, whether you’re publishing traditionally or indie. And while writing often feels like a solo sport, I’ve seen first-hand how much community and mentors mean for the success of every author.

REAL-LIFE, HUMAN MENTORS AND SUPPORT MATTER.

For every person who has supported me, I feel immense gratitude and I want to pass it on by being that help and support for authors by creating websites that will support you and connect you to the readers who make your profession worth all that hard work. In a world of AI, having a real life human on your team still matters and can make all the difference in your success.

I want to do more than create you a one-and-done website–I want to be your teammate and cheerleader. A Gandalf to your Frodo. A Haymitch to your Katniss.

Your books matter. Let’s make your website as shiny as Edward Cullen on a sunny afternoon, shall we?
